I just wanted to say that I wore a bathing suit to swim in the ocean on a first date this weekend, and didn't worry for a minute what he'd think of my body. And that, my friends, is what curvygirls is all about! That's how we roll :)
Hello everyone! With more members everyday, we are taking preventative measures to keep our community from being over-run with sales posts. Thank you for your co-operation!
No sales posts. This also includes links to items for sale. There are many other communities for that, but here it's off-topic.
Just wanted to say "Hi!" to all the new members - I think there are about 20 of you today alone! I know that there are still some membership requests and questions that are waiting to be addressed, so don't think I forgot you - you'll hear from me real soon! Rest assured, I'm still working hard over here!
New members, it's great to have you here, and feel free to introduce yourselves! Let's kick this community back into high gear! *Dances around with pom poms*
To join the community, you must come to this post and comment with the first sentence of each rule found on the userinfo page
, and include the statement "I have read and agree to abide by all rules in the community. If I disagree with the rules I will politely take it up with the mods." (all in the same comment). If all checks out, we will send you an invite (Go to this page
and click "receive an invitation to join a community" if you want to be notified), and then you must go to the community invite page
and accept your invitation.
In addition to the above, these are our requirements for membership:
--- you must have had your journal for 2+ months, have 20+ entries, and have no voyeur* communities friended. (if you don't meet those requirements but still want to be a part of the community, explain why you should be an exception in your comment)
--- you must apply with your primary journal (we don't accept community-only journals).
We know it's a complicated process, but we are a constantly growing community, and since many new members seem to make rule-breaking mistakes in their first posts, we decided to come up with a better method. Hopefully this way people will understand the rules and we won't have to reject as many posts, and people won't have to re-post because they broke a rule. We mods hate to have to reject a post that took a lot of work -- hopefully this way, the mistakes will be fewer and everyone will be happier.------
* a voyeur community is a community that is about looking at other people for sexual pleasure -- porn communities and 'show_your_boobs' type communities fall into those categories. We make exceptions, but the reason for that requirement is to try and keep out anyone who's going to join looking for sexual gratification. We're a platonic community ;-)(all comments are screened)
This post has screened comments, and if you EVER feel uncomfortable AT ALL about ANYTHING, please leave a comment here so that I can read it and respond accordingly. This is meant to be a safe space for curvygirls of all sizes, and I will do my best to be sure it remains this way. Please don't assume that I saw what bothered you and just ignored it -- we all react differently, and what may have bothered you might not have bothered me at all. Please be very specific, with links to posts or comments if you can.
So basically, if you are ever uncomfortable about anything in this community, come and post in this post (which I will link to in the userinfo) and we can have a private conversation about it.
You are all beautiful. ♥
Hello lovely curvy ladies and curvy lady admirers! Many of you are familiar with me since I've been around here quite a while, but just recently our beloved belenen
has passed the torch of maintainership to me and _paroxysm_
. The reign of terror has begun! Just joking - the community will remain very much the same. The same rules and the same goals will be in place, just different go-to girls for your questions and concerns. There's going to be a few business-type posts over the next few days as I get things in order, and there might be a short delay for new members requests or member concerns, so please bear with me! I really look forward to being a more active part of this community, and your patience is much appreciated during this transitional phase. Rock on ladies and gentlemen!
Today someone on my f-list posted about how she wants to lose her love handles so that she'll look good for the beach season. I responded with the following, and I wanted to share this with you gals as well:
"I hope you learn to love your body unconditionally so that no matter what your body looks like, when summer approaches, you'll love being in bathing suit (or birthday suit depending on your beach)! I'm convinced that the best way to feel good at the beach is working on the emotional "feel good" part, not the dieting/exercising/body modification that people think will make them feel good. If you have 'love handles', it's probably because that's the way your body is meant to be, in all it's feminine glory. Love handles contain the word 'love' for a reason."
So ladies, love your body no matter what :) After all, you only get one!
I was over decorating the tree at my mom's house today and saw the most beautiful calendar on her desk. It was called "Big Beautifuls", a calendar of artwork of big beautiful women. Beneath the cut is several pictures from the calendar- all art but there are a couple of nudes.
Here's a work-safe sample:( Not Work Safe: Big Beautifuls® ArtCollapse )
I was going to buy some of these calendars for my friends from this group, but at $20 each, I can't afford to buy a bunch. My mom got the calendar free from her favourite plus-sized clothing store called "Something More
" in Victoria, BC. Here is a link to the website for the Big Beautifuls® artwork/calendars/bookmarks:http://www.bigbeautifuls.com/index.html
I'm delighted to have found it!
i just realized i havent posted since my intro ^^;; i'm not sure this is allowed, really, since it's pretty off-topic, but i was bored and wanted to draw someone, so i started searching for Aishwarya Rai (lol) but came across some nice pictures of another Bollywood actress, Namitha. she's 1 of the more curvier Indian actresses i had seen and more curvy than many American
actresses as well. i got them from this site
dedicated to her. ( 3 rather large pictures under the cutCollapse )

Here's some pictures I can not stop looking at of the lovely Jennifer Love Hewitt. They're quite recent pictures taken of her in a bikini at the beach. Lovely shape, but that bikini is too big in my opinion. Anyways. I knew she was curvy, but I didn't know she had hips like that, DAMN! The girl looks good.( N S F W - I don't think?Collapse )
EDIT : Here's a very recent blog entry taken from Jennifer's website regarding the candid bikini pictures. I find it sad that the media are giving her such a hard time, but also refreshing that she is standing up to them this way. Here's her blog...
This is the last time I will address this subject.
I've sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women's bodies are constantly scrutinized. To set the record straight, I'm not upset for me, but for all of the girls out there that are struggling with their body image.
A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be. And being a size 0 doesn't make you beautiful.
What I should be doing is celebrating some of the best days of my life and my engagement to the man of my dreams, instead of having to deal with photographers taking invasive pictures from bad angles. I know what I look like, and so do my friends and family. And like all women out there should, I love my body.
To all girls with butts, boobs, hips and a waist, put on a bikini -- put it on and stay strong.
tell about the curves you've come to fully love, with photos of each curve you now love (give thanks!)
OR do something autumn-themed
DON'T FORGET TO TAG your theme entries with 'thanksgiving curves'!!!
p.s. by the way, any member can tag any entry as long as that tag has already been used, so please feel free to tag entries if the poster forgets!
there's pretty much no chance that any of the others will catch up, so our theme is:'costumed curves'
dressed up for Halloween or simply in costume!
You don't have to celebrate Halloween, you just have to know how to dress up. ;-) If you don't have a costume, maybe wear something formal, buy a costume tiara, and call yourself a princess or queen. Be creative!
DON'T FORGET TO TAG your theme entries with 'costumed curves'!!!!!
p.s. by the way, any member can tag any entry as long as that tag has already been used, so please feel free to tag entries if the poster forgets! If someone wants to volunteer, we'll name you 'honorary curvygirls tagger.' :D
I know this is a difficult theme for a lot of us, but please keep in mind that the rules stay the same for the theme. The goal of this theme is to post your body parts without criticizing them -- instead (NOT in addition) saying something positive. Please re-read this rule and comment if you need further explanation. (comments are screened for that purpose)
rule # 3: No negative body talk -- you must not describe your form (or anyone else's) in a negative way. It's okay for you to say 'I'm having trouble loving (body part),' but not to say, 'my (body part) is disgusting/gross/etc' or 'I hate this specific curve' or 'my (body part) is too ____' or 'I wish my (body part) looked more _____.' It is detrimental to your own body love and the body love of anyone who reads it for you to disparage yourself. This includes comments -- do not say 'I wish I had your (body part).' And of COURSE, never say anything even slightly negative about another woman's body, or about any body type.
this means, if you have trouble with your elbows because you think they are too purple, DO NOT SAY THAT. Say "I have trouble loving my elbows," not "my elbows are like grapes, gross!" Because if someone else has purple elbows, and they read that, they are going to feel like other people think their elbows are gross. If you don't say anything negative, then that person who shares a similar feature can be excited to have similar elbows.
This is not directed at anyone in particular: just a trend I've noticed in this theme especially. Remember, we're here to celebrate, not commiserate!
we baaaarely broke the tie, so our September theme is:'Learning to Love'
photos of the particular body parts you have a hard time loving, with one positive comment BY YOU about each one
(if you already love 'em all, do photos of the parts that took the longest for you to love)
DON'T FORGET TO TAG your theme entries with 'learning to love'!!!!!
we have a new sister community: curvygirls2
(general discussion). This community is a place to come and share any life experiences as a curvy girl, not just positive ones. Share anything about you, your body or anything related to you or your body. This community is a place to vent, to listen, to share experiences, and to make friends. (created by amyloo212
and as always, our sister community womenofthemoon
(support for body insecurities and EDs). This is a community geared toward helping women recover from body insecurities of any kind, including eating disorders. Specifically, it is a community that focuses on the natural, spiritual side of healing the body, soul and mind. It is about reclaiming yourself as a woman who deserves everything you think you don't. It is about touching the goddess in you. (created by brightlotusmoon
and a refresher as to what is on-topic here:
---photos of curvy women; yourself, a celebrity, or a friend (if you have permission from that friend).
---curvy-positive experiences -- yours or someone else's.
---artwork featuring curvy women.
---curvy-positive news stories, advertisements, etc.
---curvy-positive literature (with credit to the author).
off-topic but allowed under a cut:
---intro posts with the survey in the userinfo
---self-love stuff that doesn't have to do with curviness (women-positive or accepting yourself)
---curvy stuff that doesn't have to do with self-love (clothing questions, request for support (without self-hating language))
I would like everyone to share the best compliments they have ever gotten on their bodies as they naturally are.
Purely compliments you have gotten on your body or body parts from someone who truly appreciates your shape as it is. Anything goes, from compliments from your parents to lovers to friends to strangers to children. Post the compliments that you will always remember and will always make you smile and appreciate your beautiful self a little more every time you think of it.
Then go out and compliment someone(s) who crosses your path this week and you find yourself appreciating something about them. Compliment everyone who strikes you in some way, trust me, even the slightest gesture can make someone's day. :)
I'll start!( My two favorite compliments so far in lifeCollapse )
I know many of us have mixed feelings about the Dove ads -- the girls are great but the text of the ads are not. And right now Dove has a survey going on where you can tell them what you think! There are some boring questions about their products but also places to tell what you think of the 'real beauty' campaign.click to take the survey!
Here's what I wrote (feel free to copy and paste if you agree and don't feel like writing your own):Is there anything you think Dove® needs to improve upon?
Yes. Dove has made a great move in recognizing natural beauty, and now they need to eliminate the hypocrisy. It is hypocritical to say that all women are beautiful while selling a product that is designed to change/hide a NATURAL, normal body quality like cellulite. Cellulite is a quality that occurs in every body, regardless of how thick/thin, fit/unfit they are, and is one of the body qualities that women need to accept about themselves, not attempt to change. 'Beauty' products should be used to highlight beauty that is already there -- not hide anything that is incorrectly perceived as a 'flaw.' There is no such thing as a body 'flaw' -- there are only differences. What would you like to see Dove® do next?
Include women of more shapes -- you tend toward pear shapes and flat-bellied women. I want to see more variety! Include more women who have less pronounced hips and more pronounced bellies. And I'd LOVE to see a belly-love campaign with REAL bellies, where the women are not sucking in! Most women don't have toned or flat bellies, and I'd like to see this reflected in your ads.
This is a clip from "America's Got Talent" that I'm sure many of you will appreciate. It's a group of girls called the Glamazons- they are burlesque-type singers, so I'm going to but a NWS tag just in case (though there isn't any real nudity). Enjoy!
is an organization dedicated to opening up the world of dance to women of all sizes, "Because every body can dance." They have troupes that tour! I'm so inspired by this gorgeous photo:( hi-res image of bountiful women in bikinis! possibly NWSCollapse )
and Happy 2-Year Anniversary, curvygirls!!!
We've come from 0 to 1244 members (900 watchers!), 3,087 entries, and 42,597 comments! I'd like to offer a huuuuuuuuge thank you to _paroxysm_
, and shioneh
, for putting in countless hours of work over almost a year and a half of co-modding! It's been a long time and they're still going strong. ;-) I've sent them gift certificates as a small token of my gratitude -- puny in comparison to what they have given, but heartfelt just the same! And I would love it if members would comment to this post (or to their journals) with any thank-yous you might wish to give them. ;-)
Also, thank you kashlamar
, and ikkleosu
for your 7 months so far! You've been such an incredible help ♥ And the retired mods, dreaded_bliss
, and meganlynnangela
, thank you also!
well, we just barely got enough votes for a decision, but here it is. Our June theme is:'Curves In Bloom'
photos taken of you in nature, or indoors with flowers, or wearing floral-patterned clothes
DON'T FORGET TO TAG your theme entries with 'curves in bloom'!!!!!
winning by a landslide, our May theme is:'Pajama Party'
photos taken in your typical sleepwear (and if you sleep nude, that's fine too),
either taken on your bed or in your bedroom.
Remember to highlight your curves as much as possible -- so if you sleep in something super-baggy, maybe pull it snug around your form, or pose in such a way that your curves can be seen. ;-)
DON'T FORGET TO TAG your theme entries with 'pajama party'!!!!!
I've made a slideshow of many gorgeous curvy ladies -- 60+ different models, and I included two photos each of my personal favorites :D feel free to watch, share, repost, add to your myspace, whatever! This beauty should be shared! I can't get over the incredible variety, it makes my heart sing!( curvygirl slideshow!Collapse )
after you watch it, tell me which models are your favorites! :D
I'm not sure if she's been posted before, but I didn't see her name in the tags so... My curvy inspiration as of late has been the amazing Sara Ramirez. If you recognize her, it's likely from Grey's Anatomy, which I've recently become addicted to. I'm really impressed with the way they portray such a sexy, confident, curvy girl :] Makes me happy. Anyways, she's absolutely stunning, & proud of what she's got, from what I can see. Pictures are under the cut!
( +9 (SFW) PICSCollapse )
I first saw this one over at Big Fat Blog.
The video is perfect for anyone who is supportive of the HAES movement or for large-sized ladies who just need a laugh.Update:
I couldn't get the embed to work and am too burnt out from teaching/underwear shopping to try very hard. Here's the link
For once, an on-topic safe for work post! That means I don't have to cut it... right?
I never thought I would actually say this and mean it, but...
I weigh more than a lot of people, and that is one fabulous thing.
My body is unique, it is interesting, it is luscious- curving and swooping this way and that, like a beautiful hilly landscape. It is soft and warm, seemingly magnetic for pets and children to cuddle against. It cushions me if I take a tumble, and makes nearly any surface comfortable to sit or lie on. It keeps me warm when I take a refreshing dip in a chilly lake. It gives me presence when I walk into a room, demanding attention. I can play dress-up whenever I want to - I can make clothes for it, buy clothes for it, decorate it any way I want. Or, I can take a snooze in the nude and enjoy the feeling of soft sheets against my skin. It is among the likes of Queen Latifah and Mo'nique, women of size and substance. I can eat a huge variety of foods with various caloric levels and not feel guilty in any way.
I am plump like a roast, and thicker than most.
Today is International Women's Day and I think it is important for all of us to realize how far we have come these past hundred years. We have so much further to go, for both children and adult women, but perhaps for today we can all celebrate.
We are able to do what we do today because of all of those amazingly strong curvywomen who came before us!

Hello, all you lovely ladies:)
I'm taking a pottery class as part of therapy for my eating disorder (art therapy), and we recently made vases of whatever shape/ form/ figure we wanted. I decided to make mine in the shape of a woman's body. It was a great experience--I got really frustrated that I couldn't get her hips exactly symmetrical, then realized that no real woman is perfectly symmetrical anyways--and that's beautiful.
I wanted to share a picture of my curvy girl with you all:
- listening to:"The Sopranos" is on!
|'Their Favorite Part'|
a loved one takes a photo of their favorite part of you!
(or they tell you which is their fav. and you take the photo)
It's more fun if you ask more people! And be sure to include who-loves-what and why -- such as, "my boyfriend's favorite part is my ____ because _________ [pic], my best friend's favorite part is my ____ because _________ [pic]."
DON'T FORGET TO TAG your theme entries with 'their favorite part'!!!!!
